Web Applications Developer

In this role I primarily develop web delivered applications in PHP, using Oracle serverside packages and procedures. I work with developing the PHP application as well as developing the Oracle schema, tables, views, packages and procedures. I work in the ZEND framework and predominately use Oracle 10g and 11g as my development environment. Software source control is done via SVN and migration / configuration management is done using an inhouse system which is WWW intranet delivered. Additionaly to my development work I am called upon to provide adhoc analysis and software maintainence to existing PHP and Oracle products.

implementation project manager

In this role I worked primarily in determining the needs and requirement in installing the ExLibris Digitool product at the National Library of Finland. In this role I drew heavily upon my technical skills in the implementation of the project as well as my personal initiative and negotiation skills to ensure that the project followed schedule. I was responsible for project planning and reporting of project progress at weekly meetings. As part of my role in discussions with the digitisation team I became familiar with METS and MODS digital preservation XML formats. In this role I effectively ensured that required server systems were obtained and made available, that data generated by the digitisation division complied with the appropriate METS standards for Ingest into Digitool and to coordinate and facilitate for the installation on the day. The project spanned two divisions of the library which were based in different cities and under different leadership (who had different objectives). Subsequent to software system installation and delivery I was responsible for the planning and facilitation of training. During this period I also developed two specific applications for the National Library, a cataloging system to enable histoians to catalog and create a digital archive of mediaval parchments (digital images stored in conjunction with PDF and metadata) and another to archive and manage the “whois” data for all Finnish servers. These were done using PHP over PostgreSQL and made use of Dublin Core XML data storage formats
